What's a Sugar Dry Fruits Putharekulu?Ā

Sugar Dry Fruits Putharekulu, also known as Pootharekulu, are a beloved traditional sweet delicacy that has its roots deeply embedded in South India, particularly in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. These delightful, sweet treats are a harmonious fusion of natural sweetness and nourishing goodness.

The history of Sugar Dry Fruits Putharekulu can be traced back to ancient times when Sugar, a natural sweetener derived from sugarcane, was widely used in traditional Indian cuisine. The combination of Sugar with dry fruits, such as cashews, almonds, raisins, and dates, was a clever way to create a sweet indulgence that was not only delicious but also packed with essential nutrients. These sweets were traditionally prepared during festivals, celebrations, and auspicious occasions, symbolising joy, prosperity, and sharing sweetness with loved ones.

Over the centuries, the Sugar Dry Fruits Putharekulu recipe has been passed down from generation to generation, with each family adding their unique touch and variations. Some households preferred to use a specific combination of dry fruits, while others incorporated additional ingredients like grated coconut or edible silver foil for added texture and visual appeal.

Today, Sugar Dry Fruits Putharekulu has transcended its regional boundaries and become a beloved treat across India and internationally. Their popularity stems from their ability to satisfy sweet cravings while providing a nutritious and relatively guilt-free indulgence, making them a cherished gift for various occasions and celebrations.

How is Sugar Dry Fruits Putharekulu Made?

The magic of Sugar Dry Fruits Putharekulu lies in its meticulous preparation. Here's a peek behind the curtain:

  1. The Art of the Rice Flour Sheet: The journey begins with crafting a paper-thin rice flour sheet. This involves grinding rice into a fine powder, mixing it with water to form a batter, and then expertly spreading and steaming it over a pot. The resulting sheet is the delicate canvas for the sweet filling.

  2. Sugar & Dried Fruit Symphony: High-quality sugar is transformed into a smooth syrup. A medley of dried fruits, like cashews, almonds, and pistachios, is added. These are often lightly roasted or fried to enhance their flavour and texture.

  3. Mixing & Shaping: The sugar syrup and dried fruits are meticulously combined, ensuring every bite is packed with flavour.

  4. Sweet Transformation: In some variations, a delightful surprise awaits insideā€”a centre filled with additional flavours like Horlicks, Boost, or dates for added flavour.

  5. Sweet Bliss: Finally, the shaped sweet is wrapped in the delicate rice flour sheet, creating a beautiful contrast of textures. The Putharekulu is then allowed to cool and set, resulting in a heavenly treat ready to tantalise your taste buds.
